香草滋味

又一個麻雀變鳳凰的故事。

一位奇貌不揚的 mobile salesperson，一個熱愛 opera 的業餘者，一個缺乏自信的中年男人，但是一開口唱 Nessun Dorma 卻贏得了熱烈的掌聲——他是英國的 "Britain's Got Talent" 的得獎者 Paul Potts。


短短的一個月內，Paul Potts 由藉藉無名的 average Joe 到灌錄一張 full length album 的歌手，就如碟名 One Chance 一樣，這是他生命中的 one chance。

老實說我沒有什麼 musical ears，opera / popera 更是一個我不太熟悉的 genre。這張碟我聽到一個奇跡，一種夢想實現的感動。但是論曲藝，Paul Potts 始終還是不太到位，感情方面也未如 professional 般收放自如。

全碟的選曲方面都非常容易入耳，讓跟 opera 沒什麼緣的普羅大眾也可以把這張碟當是 easy to listen。但老實說，選曲其實很 cheesy，因為全碟的歌曲已經被 cover 過不少次，尤其其中好幾首歌也被近年非常受歡迎的 Josh Groban 和 Il Divo 收錄過。

全碟最敗筆，要算最後一首 "Music of the Night"。如果大家有現場看過 Phantom of the Opera 這個音樂劇的話，那麼 Paul Potts 跟其他 Phantom 實在差太遠。我知道把一個 amateur 和日夜在舞台上練功架的 theatre actor 比很不公平，我亦不會拿 Pavarotti 來跟 Paul Potts 作比較，但我真的太喜愛 Andrew Llyod Webber 這齣 musical，所以不是不失望的。
